“Stuffy room, snotty receptionists,
my bike’s been nicked”

10 good reasons why therapy on Zoom can be better

1. Convenience

My clients don’t have to waste their time, money and energy travelling to see me, concerned about transport difficulties, strikes, parking cost, parking problems, getting their car towed or bike stolen. And it gives us both the flexibility of working together from wherever we happen to be.

2. Environment

Some therapists rent small consulting rooms by the hour in bland, anonymous buildings with other conversations audible from adjacent rooms. Clients can experience such an environment as cold and unwelcoming. And not all receptionists are warm and cuddly…unfortunately. And you’re not having to pay for the rent of the room!

3. Discreet

Zoom sessions are discreet. Some clients are uncomfortable attending a mental healthcare centre, uneasy about who else could be there, who might see them there and perhaps wondering what their ‘problem’ is.

4. Anonymity

You might well feel better talking to someone who is not a member of your own community and who you’re definitely not going to bump into in the gym, supermarket, restaurant or on Park Run wondering whether or not you should greet me or ignore me in my cap and sweaty tee shirt!

5. Objectivity

Someone from outside your community and locality might well be able to give you a more objective view of your situation and problems.

6. Comfort

Clients tell me they feel very comfortable speaking to me from the safety and security of their own home or office. You choose the surroundings, not me.

7. Selection

Working online gives you access to a far greater selection of therapists. I really enjoy working with clients throughout the UK and beyond.

8. Effective

On Zoom or FaceTime you can have a session with me from your office, hotel room or campervan making it easier for therapy to be effective being more frequent, regular and continuous.

9. Health

Would you really want to sit for 50 minutes in the middle of winter in a room which is too hot or too cold, stuffy or draughty, maybe being ventilated by a wide-open window just after someone with a bad cold or even worse has just been sitting in the same chair you’re sitting in now?

10. Covid & Flu

Catching Covid, Flu etc is still a real concern for many people regardless of age. Working on Zoom or FaceTime dispenses with all these concerns and means that both your health and mine are safeguarded. You can relax.
